Steam Cleaning vs Deep Extraction: What's Best for Your Sofa?

Steam and extraction work differently. Here's how they compare and why we often combine them.

Steam Cleaning vs Deep Extraction: What's Best for Your Sofa?

Two Methods, One Goal

Both steam cleaning and deep extraction aim to clean your sofa, but they work differently and are often used together for the best result.

What Is Deep Extraction?

Deep extraction (injection-extraction) pushes a cleaning solution into the fabric and immediately pulls it back out, taking dissolved dirt with it. It is the most effective method for removing dirt deep in the fabric.

What Is Steam Cleaning?

Steam cleaning uses hot steam to refresh and sanitise the surface. It is excellent for odours and surface freshness but does not extract dirt from deep within the fabric on its own.

Which Is Best?

For most sofas, the best result comes from combining both: extraction to remove deep dirt, followed by steam for freshness. We use this combined approach.

FAQ

Will steam damage my fabric? We assess fabric suitability before using steam. Not all fabrics are suitable.

Can I choose one method? We recommend based on your sofa. Both are often combined for the best result.
